SFFL 2015 – Pre-Draft

Alright boys, the draft is only a few days away… So, I figured I would give you a short little update to get ready for the season.

First, I would like to welcome everyone back for what will be the 7th season of the trophy era. I believe that the only change from last year’s ownership was Keith moving his team to Ohio and dropping Jose as the assistant. Then, Buck quickly hired him.

Congrats again to Nate and Caleb on their Championship. After a long wait and several failed attempts, we will finally present them with the Championship Trophy at the Draft.

As for the rest of the update below… I have the draft info, rule changes from last year (nothing with league settings & scoring, just payment/payout), and my own rule change idea to vote on this year. Just something to kick the tires.

Thanks and Good Luck come Saturday.

Largest Margin of Victory Yearly 1×30 30 630
Division Winners Yearly 3×40 120 750

+Most important rule… In order to win any weekly/yearly prizes or games the teams entry fee must be paid in full. If the team is not paid in full and they hit a weekly award, it will go to the next person. If they are not paid in full by week 12, they can’t win a yearly prize and it will go to the next person. The two special games below are described as follows….

*Weekly Skins: Each week 10 is up for any team that beats their opponent by more than 50 points. If nobody beats anyone by that much, the money rolls over to the next week. When someone hits, the pot starts back at 10. Whatever money is carried over (if any) after week 12 finishes, it will continue into the playoffs, but will not increase. If it is still not hit by the time we get to week 15, in order to win it, you would need to outscore your opponent by 100 over the 2 week span. If nobody hits that, whatever is left will get split 60/40 to the top two teams with the greatest point differential on the entire season (including playoffs). If a team is not paid in full and hits a skin, they will not get paid and the money will simply carry over. If two people hit a skin on the same week, it carries over. The point of a skin is to be the only one who does it in a particular week.

**Survivor: Every week the lowest scoring team is eliminated until 1 team remains. If there are teams that are not paid in full, they will be eliminated first. Example: 10 Teams are paid in full at draft and two teams are not. When week 1 ends, the 10 teams paid in full are safe regardless of score and the lower score of the two unpaid teams will be eliminated. If the unpaid team that survived week 1 is still unpaid for week 2, they will be eliminated regardless of score. Then, starting in week 3 (since the remaining teams will all be paid in full) we will eliminate the lowest scoring team until 1 is left. If two teams tie for the lowest score in one week, if one is unpaid they are eliminated, if both are unpaid they are both eliminated, if both are paid the lower scoring bench is eliminated. If the benched score the same, both are eliminated. Whoever is left at the end will win the 50.

Rule Change Idea: Set Divisions

So, as the title suggest my idea to vote on this year is some sort of set divisions. Instead of the 1-4-7-10 / 2-5-8-11 / 3-6-9-12 divisions we have used in the past. The only reason I bring this up is to maybe accompany how the draft selection process is based actually on the previous year and not just random.

I think another reason for this is to create potential rivalries (not that there aren’t any already) and the fact that it would seem more “real” on a year to year basis.

I guess the most difficult thing about it would be coming up with a way to select the divisions in a fair way.

Some ideas…

  • Based on All-Time Win %: Top 3 split, next three split, etc.
  • One-Time Random Selection
  • Location Based (See Below)
  • Other ideas….

Location Based

My initial idea was to create the division based purely on location. Eastern – Central – Western.
This was the reason I asked for everyone’s address, and here is what I came up with….

Note: Teams with two owners, I found the Latitude/Longitude mid-point between the two locations and used that and their team location (except for CHAMPS BALSAGNA, I never got a response from Shane, so I just used Akoz).

From their I found everyone’s distance from each other and narrowed the division options based on the highest-closest points. Example: Keith is based out of Columbus… He is by far the farthest from everyone. Therefore, the three closest teams to his; would be farther away than anyone else… and because of that they must be in his division. This is pretty straight forward, but when looking at the map it may seem confusing as to why Mahon isn’t in the same division as Ken+Justin.

Anyways, here were the results.

Eastern
> Suck My Ditka
> Krack
> MSIDE’s Year
> Lawrenceville United

Central
> CHAMPS BALSAGNA
> Keystone St. Of Mind
> Mountain Men
> |\/|cNAlR’S Mayhem

Western
> The Chalupa Batmans
> Cordarrelle Patterson
> The Beefalo’s
> Monday Nightshift

Again, this is just something to think about and I am not even 100% sure if I am on board with it. The way we do it now does work.
