Playoff Games . Round 2 Lines

All,

Here are the lines for this weekends games. Remember, even if the lines change from now until the start of a game, we keep these lines that are posted. You may start to send me wagers for this week as soon as you like via email, text, or call. Text is the easiest for me, but I can work with email just fine. Call if you absolutely must because sometimes I may not be able to write things down or may be in class. You must have at least 1 straight wager on each of the four games and for anyone that may have thought otherwise, a straight wager can be the spread OR the over/under. Again, you have up until 10 minutes before the start of a specific game to change or add any wagers. With that being said, all teasers and parlays are open in a sense that you can change which bets make them up, but once the first game of a teaser or parlay start you can not change the wager amount or the number of teams… at that point, you can only change the remaining bets. For example, if I have NE, SEA, and GB in a parlay for 50. You have until 10 minutes before the GB game to change the wager amount, the number of teams, any bets involved, or cancel the bet. However, once the GB game locks, the number of teams (3 in this case) and the wager (50) lock. If it were a teaser, those two things and the plus amount (6, 6.5, or 7) would also lock. BUT.. say GB covers and my bet is still alive Sunday morning, but I am having second thoughts about SEA… I have until 12:50 to change my SEA bet to anything else that has yet to happen. If I change it in time, all is good. Once it locks, I would have until 4:20 to make any changes to the NE bet. Anyways… here are the lines….

Playoff Games . Round 1 Standings and Stats

After the first round of games here are the current standings. I also included the number of each type of bet so you can compare how everyone is doing and see where you stand as for as minimum Parlays and Teasers are concerned. A few people had some pretty nice wins over the weekend but Akoz had the biggest win with 300 on a 2 team teaser which returned him 230.77. Also, Nate and Sean had straight bets that netted them 200 and 150, respectively. Bambi putting 625 on the Colts +7 ended up being a huge mistake. He needed Washington to cover to even still be in it, but now since he doesn’t have 100 credits to make 4 straight bets this week he is officially eliminated (the only one). Anyways… here is the standings and be ready for the lines to the games on Thursday. I have all of the wagers saved, but if you think I made a mistake please let me know ASAP.

****FIX*****
It was brought to my attention and I went back and checked… but Tuschak had a 3 team parlay which included SEA -2.5 and not WASH +2.5. This changed from a Loss of 75 to a win of 450, which was the largest of the week. All the fixes have been made on the wagers and standings tables.

Playoff Games Round 1 and Futures

For anyone that is still following along and is going to play here is the first week of lines and the futures lines in which you need to make a decision one. Also, I will be making one rule change from yesterdays post. So, what you need to do from now until the games begin on Saturday is text, call, or email me with you picks. Remember you need to have at least one Straight Wager for each game, 3 Parlays (which do not need to be this week), 1 Teaser (which also does not need to be this week), and 1 Futures Bet (which needs to be before the first game).

Rule Change
The only rule change I have decided to make is the eliminate the Max Bet setting for each round. In thinking it over, I initially wanted to eliminate someone betting the house on one game and taking a huge lead, but I think that will take away from some of the fun. Some people may take the small amounts route while other may want to take the boom or bust approach. Either way, KEEP IN MIND, there is still a minimum of 25 credits per bet and you MUST reach your minimum of 11 Straight Wagers (one per game), 3 Parlays, 1 Teaser, and the 25 credit futures. So, if you go and bet 500 on something in Round 1 and lose you might not have the funds in the end to reach your minimum bets.

Round 1 Game Lines

Here are the lines for the first round games. They will stay these lines, taken from Sportsbook, even if the lines change from now until kickoff. As long as everyone has the same lines to play with… it is fair. I need at least one straight wager from each game for this week. If you choose to go the teaser route you can choose from 6, 6.5, or 7 to add to the lines above. For example, Say you choose 6.5 for a teaser you would add 6.5 to each teams spread, take away 6.5 from the over, and add 6.5 to the under… (Seahawks would become a +4, Redskins +9, and the over under for that game would be over 39.5 or under 52.5).

Remember, you do not have to stop at 4 bets.

Futures Lines

Above are the futures lines for the Super Bowl Winner. Before the start of the first game you need to make a pick on who you think is going to win the Super Bowl. Everyone will use the same 25 Credit amount. So, you can take a risk and go with someone with a huge return or try and get a solid amount of Credits from a favorite. Either way, you will not be able to adjust this bet once the first games start.

For those of you who are unfamiliar, a 25 credit wager on a +300(Patriots) line would return 75 Credits + 25 Initial Credits for a total of 100.
Similarly, if you would choose the +8000 Colts, you would get 2025 Credits.

Good Luck
If you decide to play you can start to send me wagers. At this time I am not 100% sure of the amount of people who will be participating because many seem on the edge. Saturday I will have a final answer to that. Again, if you have any questions, suggestions, or concerns please let me know ASAP. My next update will start to include the wagers that are being made so that everyone can track their own and oppositions progress.

Thanks,
Staudt

Playoff Games Intro

Hello again fantasy people and welcome to the new guys. Last year I did a little Fantasy Playoff thing much like a regular season Fantasy league in that you picked players, hoped they did good, and hoped they made it to the Super Bowl. Brandon T. took home 1st last year as the only one who took H. Nicks. Anyways, this year I wanted to take a break from the individual player performances and hopefully come up with something most people will enjoy while still having a vested interest in the playoffs since the Steelers are done. So, I saw something similar late in the NFL season, made some adjustments and came up with the following. If you have ever gambled or made bets online before this should come very easy to you… if not, it still shouldn’t be difficult, but I am always here to answer questions.

Starters and Basics

  • All players will start with the same bankroll of 775 Credits.
  • You can make straight (line or over/uner), parleys, or teaser bets.
  • Minimum bet is 25 Credits.
  • First Round Maximum bet is 50 Credits.
  • Second Round Maximum bet is 50 Credits.
  • Conference Championships Maximum bet is 75 Credits.
  • Super Bowl Maximum bet is 100 Credits.
  • If at any point you fall to 0 (Zero) credits, you are eliminated.
  • All players must start with 1 bonus “Futures” bet for 25 credits.
  • All players must reach a minimum of each type of bet.
  • If the minimum number of bets is not reached for a round, you will be disqualified.
  • Once the minimum is reached, all players are allowed to make more bets for the round.
  • All odds will be taken from Sportsbook Thursday before the weekend games.
  • Even if the odds change on Friday/Saturday/Sunday we will keep the posted Thursday odds.

Deadlines and Bets

  • All bets will lock 10 minutes before the scheduled kick-off time.
  • The deadline for new bets or adjusting bets will be also 10 minutes before the scheduled kick-off time.
  • You can make bets via calling me, texting me, or emailing me.
  • Anything text/call/email with a time-stamp after the deadline will be disregarded.

Minimums

  • 1 Straight bet (Spread or Over/Under) per game, 11 total.
  • 3 Parlays (any number of teams).
  • 1 Teaser (any number of teams and 1 of the three addition options).
  • 1 Futures Bet before the first round.

Extra Betting Rules

  • You may not make a duplicate bet.
    • This means an exact duplicate… you can include something that you have a straight wager for
in a parlay, but you cannot make two straight bets on the same line.
  • Parlays and teasers can be open, but weekly only.
    • You may have an open ended parlay Saturday for the Sunday games.
    • You can not have an open ended parlay from one round to the next.
  • All bets will be kept from the rest of the players until game start.
    • The type and number of bets will be displayed prior to
    • For parlays, bet info will be released as games lock.

example: if someone puts a 3 team parlay in
what will be given before: NAME, TYPE, NUMBER OF TEAMS
what will be given after each game locks: BET PLACED (team and spread or over/under)
what will be given once all games involved in the bet lock: VALUE

*NOTE: I am not always at my computer and I am guessing some bets will come in late so I will do my best to update this as soon as I can, but it might not always be in the most timely manor. However, All of the above information is available by request if I have not updated it on time.

Fantasy Playoffs . Round 1 . Regular Season Goodies

The time has come. 6 teams in and 6 teams out. The stage is set for another very competitive and entertaining post season in the league. We also have some wagering going down in the losers brackets to keep things interesting. I decided to do things a little different this week and as you may have noticed this year. I still kept track of all of the season stats by position and the what if’s (which are updated), but I did not do the trophies on the ESPN side. Instead I have decided to try and take a closer look at records and a pro-bowl team for each division. Even though ESPN has “History” section for the league there are some things that they just drop over time, so since this is the first year I will do my best with what I have and keep a log of specific things on my own going forward.

As for the rest of the update, I will have League News, Deadlines, Pick-up Report/Party Info, Stat’s by Position, What If’s, Records, Pro-Bowl Teams, Breakdown/Ranks, and Image/Gif/Video all updated.

Quick Links

Deadlines Pick-up Report Stats and Ifs Records/Teams Ranks IVG

League News
Besides what I covered in the brief intro there is not much actual League News to discuss. The one thing that I did want to mention is that as the playoffs progress, I want to start a mid-week interview type thing with the games. I will be sending out a text to the teams in the playoffs before the games on Sunday, at halftime of the 1pm games, around 4, half of the 4pm games, end of 4pm games, Monday morning, and after the Monday night game. I will then proceed to time-stamp the questions and responses (Not in real-time) but when I get a chance to make the update, so that people can see the outlook from both sides. I think it will be a interesting thing and if it works this week I will do it for the remaining weeks/years.

Matt Berry’s Take on Trading and the Veto

Let’s get one thing straight, I do not live and die by what Berry has to say when it comes to fantasy. There are equally as significant (and even better) options out there if you need help drafting or setting your lineup. However, I do like to read what he has to say in his weekly Love/Hate column. With the ESPN standard league trade deadline next week, this weeks post touched on that very topic. Here is what he had to say about Trading and the Veto….

I hate, hate, hate the veto. It’s the coward’s way out. If I was suddenly made the ruler of all things fantasy, there would never be a veto except in cases of obvious, provable collusion. And in that case, only the commissioner or host website for the league should wield that power.

Understand these two key things: The art of negotiating is a skill in fantasy. That’s part of running a fantasy team. A huge part, in fact. It’s a skill that is admired and sought after in real-life general managers, so why should this be any different?

And second, it is not your job to coach someone else’s team. I don’t care if you think that tight end isn’t nearly enough for that quarterback/running back combo. The only thing that matters is that the guy getting the tight end thinks so. Everyone should be allowed — encouraged, in fact — to coach their own team. Even if it’s stupidly.Because I have news for you. No one ever knows. I remember one of the first email flame wars I got into about a trade I made just after the draft one year, still in the preseason. In my longtime league with all my college buddies (a dynasty league), I traded a package of players for, in essence, Brett Favre, then one of the best quarterbacks in fantasy. It was a depth-for-a-superstar deal, perfectly legit, but the league went nuts because the only quarterback the guy was getting back was a recently promoted backup who had just got the job because the starter had been injured in preseason.

I argued the point of the deal was to give him depth at running back and wide receiver, which is what the guy said he wanted. He was happy, I was happy, what’s the issue? On and on they complained. Until about Week 3 or 4, when they realized the backup quarterback I had dealt, Kurt Warner, was embarking upon his 1999 “Greatest Show on Turf” season, and would be better than Favre would ever be.

No one has argued about a trade in that league since.

I’ll say it again. As long as both teams feel the deal helps their team, regardless of whether you agree, it MUST GO THROUGH. I especially can’t stand the people who block a trade just because it doesn’t involve them or because it’s part of their “strategy” to block other teams from improving. That’s the coward’s way out and you’re a scummy, spineless punk if you do that.

I’ve said it before, will say it again. Win on the virtual field, not by manipulating the rules.

This is a very touchy subject in the fantasy world, but the way Berry puts it could not better describe how I feel about it. Numbers are one, future hopes are another, reports on playing time yet another. The list goes on and on, but the fact remains that nobody knows the outcome and nobody will ever know the outcome until it’s all said and done.
In my league, I believe that all 12 teams owners are well aware of situations that their own players and players they may be targeting are in. We are equally capable of turning on the tv/radio/computer/phone or reading the paper. We see the numbers. I also trust that nobody in my league cheats (colludes). However, I also think that the veto vote is abused. Not every time, but sometimes. Lastly, I feel that if we must have a vote, we do it the best way possible.
Anyways, just thought I’d share.
